There are many differences between this research of microfinance program and other researches of same areas in the aspects of researching method and components. It portrays a full picture of impact to rural poor women by microfinance program from various aspects. This article takes case study from a microfinance program in Gansu Integrated Rural Development Poverty Reduction Project (GIR-DPRP), focusing on the study of microfinance impact on Han and Muslim women in Hezheng and Jishishan Counties of Gansu Province. This research not only covers the conventional topic - Economic impact, but pays more attention on the research of social status, behavior, and capacity building of women changed by microfinance program as well. Meanwhile, this article also researches the shortcomings of microfinance program.This article at first analyzes the causes of poverty of western rural women, summarizes the real roots resulting into their poverty. Then, it has a detailed analysis on the key microfinance element that plays a great impact on poverty reduction for rural poor women, and finds the result that microfinance is able to improve the capacity of women, then increase their economic position, and finally improve their social status in family and community, these elements embodies the empowerment of women by microfinance program.In chapter four of this article, the microfinance program in GIR-DPRP is taken as a case to be specially analyzed. Through detailed data and cases, it summarizes that microfinance program has significant impact on improving capacity building of western rural women and enhancing sustainable development. At the same time, it analyzes how microfinance program improves rural poor women's economic, social status and behaviors. Finally, this chapter also debriefs the challenging and shortcomings confronting in the real operation of microfinance program.According to the analysis results, this article at last puts forwards constructive suggestions to government and non-governmental development organizations.
