Academic study is one of the base factors that support the developing of the competitive power of urban tourism. This paper quoted the continual development theories and some tourism knowledge and the methods of economy, to definition the basic concepts such as urban tourism and competitive power of urban tourism. Then the paper uses the "diamond" model for reference, sets up "urban tourism competition" model, which analyzes the main influence factors of urban tourism and the content of competitive power of urban tourism, as well as the space competition process and develop stage of urban tourism. According to the certain principle, this paper sets up a set of evaluation index system to evaluate the competitive power of urban tourism. Then we made use of the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) to evaluate many aspects of tourism competitive power of Wuhan, Nanking, Peking and Xi'an, and contrast Wuhan with the other cities in all the aspects to know the problem in developing tourism of Wuhan. Finally we concluded some useful way to solve those problems.This paper includes six parts.The first part: Introduction.This part introduced the background, purpose and significance of the study. And reviewed the research on competitive power of urban tourism in home and abroad, give the synopsis and summary of this paper.The second part: basic theories of the competitive power of urban tourism.We defined the concept of urban tourism, competitive power of city and competitive power of urban tourism, and then overviewed the related theories. The theory of competitive power of urban tourism is that study the urban tourism froma special way to optimize the tourism resource. The special way can absorb the principle and methods of many related theories include economy theory, tourism theory and competitive power theory.The third part: the competitive power of urban tourism.In this part, we analyzed the main factors of competitive power of urban tourism, studied it develop stages and space competition process. We found that competitive power of urban tourism composed by two parts: competitive power of resource and competitive power of market, which exhibit in three aspects: surface competitive power of tourism product, operation competitive power of tourism company and inside competitive power of tourism resource. And then we concluded the main characters of four periods of competitive power: urban tourism resource, urban tourism produce and sale, urban tourism capital strength and urban tourism innovation. Potter's "diamond" model, urban competitive power model and industry competitive power model were used for reference, to set up the "urban tourism competitive power" model.The fourth part: evaluate the competitive power of urban tourism.Base on the existent theories and methods, we study the principle, route and content of competitive power of urban tourism system. The system was supported by performance of urban tourism, potential of urban tourism and environment support of urban tourism. And the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) is the right way to evaluate the competitive power of urban tourism.The fifth part: Demonstration of evaluating the competitive power of urban tourism. We chose Wuhan, Nanking, Peking and Xi'an, and contrast Wuhan with the other cities in all the aspects to know the problem in developing tourism of Wuhan. Finally we concluded some useful way to solve those problems.The sixth part: the end.
