In the knowledge economy time, competency has become the key issue in the competence between one corporation and the other ones, hence competency- based pay (CBP) will become more and more widespreadly used. The CBP is a pay system based on employees' competency. In such a system, one employee's competency that he contributes to the corporation dominates his compensation level, high or low, and the application of the system will improve the employee's competency of his contribution to the corporation. This thesis demonstrates the design process and method of CBP in detail, combining the competence model and the theory relative to compensation. In case study, the design of the employees' competency salary in A electric power design institute is given out. We wish other compensation designers can borrow idea from this case study in their practical experience.
