| Many studies on work values have been done during the past 20 years in Westerncountries and psychologists in China have now become interested in it as well. Fromthe view point of organization,with the rapid development of economy and society, inorder to enact effective managemental measures , it is necessary to know thecharacteristics of employees' work values,analyze the relations between work valuesand organizational behavior in theory and in practice.The study examines the structureof employees' work values,analysises the factors which influences them,explores therelationship between wok values and organizational citizenship behavior,organizationalcommitment, turnover intention , using the methods of interviews and questionnaires,Exploratory Factor Analysis,Confirmatory Factor Analysis, variance analysis,correlation,regression,etc.from two samples of six different cities employees (N1=351,N2=281). We find that: First, the structure of has six dimensions,including respect and prestige,thebalance between work and life,self-development,physical rewards,work behavior,harmoniousness and pleasure.Comparing with the studies in western countries,ourstudy has a new breakthrough: the balance between work and life,harmoniousness andpleasure are regarded as two seperate dimensions. Secend,the six dimensions,arranged in decending order of importance to workvalues are:the balance between work and life,self-development,respect and prestige,physical rewards,harmoniousness and pleasure,work behavior. Third,multiple differences in demographic variables such as gender, age, position,enterprise property,have been found on some dimensions. Forth, the reliability and validity of organizational citizenship behaviorquestionnaire,organizational commitment questionnaire is reasonable.Work values is agood predictor for organizational citizenship behavior,organizational commitment andturnover intention. There are several new ideas brought forth by this paper as follows: First, a questionnaire of employees'work values has been proposed in this study.Ithas a new breakthrough in structure: balance between work and life,harmoniousness theand pleasure are regarded as two seperate dimensions.At the same time,from the viewpoint of demonstration,the author explores the characteristics of employees' workvalues and work values' as a whole and examines the relationship between relativeantecedents and employees'work values. Second,work values is a good predictor of organizational behavior variables byexploring the relations between work values and organizational behavior variables. |
