A Study Of American Policies Towards South Asia After The September 11 Event

This text analyzes the status of South Asia in American global strategy, the intent of American policies towards South Asia, the influence on our country's security and our counter-measures. The dissertation is composed of three chapters. Chapter one attempts to analyze the position of South Asia in American global strategy. It is maintained that the role of South Asian was rose in American global strategy, because America regarded South Asia as the strategic area of preventing China and Russia from developing,the network of petroleum transportation, a key nuclear arms proliferation district, a main battle fields that attack terrorism. U.S.A. has strengthened the concerns on South Asia. Chapter two analyzes the content of the American policies towards South Asia. In military field, U.S.A. strengthens the cooperation with India in order to condense the strategic space of China and Russia. In diplomatic fields, U.S.A. pursues roughly balanced diplomacy in South Asia, strengthens the cooperation with India, and pays attention to develop the relation with Pakistan. In economy field, India,a better commodity market for investment, has strong appeal to American industrial and commercial enterprises. On the other hand, controlling South Asia can control the world petroleum resources. In arms control, America pays much attention to the dissemination of nuclear arms in order to avoid the nuclear weapons, the nuclear technology and the nuclear material flowing into rascal countries , extreme organizations and terrorists. In security field, U.S.A. relies on more support from India, constructs with security system that U.S.A. leads and makes use of Pakistan to keep balance with India. Chapter three analyzes the effects of American policy towards South Asia on China. And our counter measures. Because U.S.A. realized military affairs in South Asia, the western security pressure on our country is increasing. The counter-terrorism war in South Asia has destroyed the centre of terrorist, but made the terrorist in all directions. Because U.S.A. has relaxed the sanction of Indian-Pakistan nuclear weapons, the possibility of the nuclear war breaking out in India and Pakistan is increased. The external environment of Xing jiang and Tibet is worse. So we should initiate the new security concept, with "mutual trust, mutual benefit, equality and coordination"as its core. Military transparency of cooperation with Pakistan China should be increased. On the other hand, China should strengthen the cooperation with India and Pakistan in economy and trade and increase the mutual trust with India. We should develop, relationship with surrounding countries, make more space for our country. in affair field.
