It is necessary to study interface management for the development of integrated economy and social harmony. The inefficacy caused by interface obstacles and conflicts in economic organizations is increasingly attracting attention by theoretical and industrial circles. Socialized labor division brings about internal efficiency in integrated units while bringing external inefficacy among integrated units. The purpose of this paper is to probe into the essential of the interface problems, to find out the evolution law of interface problems, providing theoretic supports for dealing with interface problems. Through systemically summarizing the existing theoretical fruits, the paper mainly focuses on the interface fundamental theory and on the organizational structure designed for interface management based on former experiences. Chapter 1 reviews the history and status quo of interface management, and then introduces the research path and methods, etc. Chapter 2 comes out with the definition and property of interface, classifies interface in terms of five criteria. An openness-trueness matrix is brought forward to estimate the state of interface. The principles are established that interface obstacles differs in many ways from interface conflicts, especially in terms of objectivity vs. subjectivity and inclusive vs. exclusive. The paper classifies the interface obstacles. From the viewpoints of humanity, rules, and technology, five factors influencing interface obstacles are brought forward. Chapter 2 emphasizes the study of the evolution law of interface conflicts. An evolution curve of interface conflicts is presented. The curve comes from logistical ratiocination and actual observation. It stems from mechanical friction curve and is properly adapted. After reasonably simplifying the curve of management efficiency and that of the evolution of natural conflicts, the paper concludes that the course of interface conflicts evolution is disequilibrium, and comes up with some advises. Chapter 3 discusses first the relationship between interface management and the design of the organizational structure, and analyzes factors influencing structure design in the sense of interface management. There are some factors in traditional structures in favor of interface management, and the modern patterns as well. At last, based on the evolution law of interface conflicts, an argument is presented that the pattern and structure should be reformed and diversified. Chapter 4 summarizes the whole paper, and points out the trend of future research and the problems to be resolved. Even though there is little in management classics about interface management, we can draw some new conclusions from them in the light of interface management, and effect metabolism.
