| In our country, we pay more and more attention to institution-supported-the aged and home-supported-the aged, we hope either institution-supported-the aged or home-supported-the aged or both can solve the aged problems. In order to provide a great basis for our choice and development, this thesis tries to evaluate the two modes.1 Methods: The data and materials used in this thesis mainly come from author's research which began in 10, 2003 and finished recently. Questionnaire, interview, and participant observation were used to get the data and materials.2 Hypotheses: 1) old people who live in institutions are social isolation deeply and widely; 2) old people feel very lonely; 3) institution-supported-the aged is not an ideal choice for elderly people.3 Content: first, the author finds defects in other people's researches by summarizing the related researches, then makes a definite distinguish between isolation and loneliness; second, author makes a completely research in old people's family relationship, friend relationship, organization relationship, interest and surroundings; finally, studying the relationship between the social isolation and loneliness, old people's self-felt loneliness and emotional loneliness.4 Results: 1) social isolation is deep and wide; 2) old people feel very lonely; 3) the above problems among elderly people decide institution-supported-the aged is not a good mode, we should try our best to develop home-supported-the aged.
