In recent years, great changes about macro-circumstance confronted by ports have taken place. After the entry into WTO, transportation demands has enlarged greatly and wide-ranging competition occurs between ports, especially the conflict between releasing of port management barriers and the traditional management rules after the "port law" was announced in 2004. With the importance of ports in regional economic improving, Chinese government puts forward to a slogan of "invigorate the north-east traditional industry base" and a policy "the building of Dalian as one of shipping centers in the north-east Asia". Confronting the varied circumstances, DPN have to grip the chance to realize the good economical relationship between port development and regional economic development, and then win the battles between ports at last.In the boost of economic globalization, modern logistics has converted providing traditional services to combined logistics supported by modern science and information technology. As an important knot in logistics chain, port can not be replaced with its special position that port not only connects land and ocean or rivers, but also is a junction of various land transport methods. Port logistics as a new logistics form is bound to play an important role during the port production and economic. As for DPN with container transport service and resources advantage, to conform to modern port development trend and to explore company development direction is the first problem to be resolved. The choice of developing port logistics, especially port container logistics service, will support port's traditional dock services effectively and strengthen the kernel competitive ability of port and is the only choice in intense competitive circumstances.The article provides a direction to develop logistics through analysis of external and internal circumstances, argumentation of the necessity and feasibility. At the end of the article there are some suggestions for reference.
