A Study On Mao Zedong's Personality Cult

Personality cult is an extensive social phenomena and long-lasting historical phenomena. The one once appearing during the communist movement is just one special manifestation of it. Personality cult had ever existed extensively during some specific historical period of the international communist movement, especially when the first-generation-leaders were in power in socialistic nations, this was a typical phenomenon. As stalin's long-term personality cult subsisted in Soviet union, Mao Zedong's personality cult had a long -time existence in our nation.Mao Zedong's personality cult had been in existence since yanan times, and with mao Zedong's advance in status in party, the scale and scope gradually grew enlarged.In 50's of last century the development of mao Zedong's personality cult leaded to a grave result of "the Great Leap Forward"and "The people communization" movements and eventually "the culture revolution" came into being. During the period of "the culture revolution", on the one hand, leaders advocated personality cult furiously, on the other hand, personality cult was exploited by some ones who beared ulterior motives, therefore personality cult reached its peak in our nation which caused serious loss to the politics, economics and culture to our state.By way of retrospecting the appearance and development of personality cult in our party and nation, the dangers it brought to our party and nation, furthermore analyzing what internatonal circumstances it arose in and what the domestic conditions were in historical, social, politic and economic aspects, we can find effective counermeasures against personality cult correspondingly, so that our party and our nation can be far away from personality cult and history can be far away from repeating itself as well.Consequently this thesis find out the causes of personality cult by way of looking back the development of personality cult in our nation and the significant damage personality cult brought on. The causes of phenomena of personality cult mainly involve the serious inaccuracy in dealing with the leader-party relations in communist movement, the backward feudalistic remains, faultiness in democratic system, careerists' advocating and leaders' inclination to compliments, and so on. In order to avoid personality cult afterwards considering the reasons why it appeared, we should adhere to Marxian materialistic concept of history that masses are the creator of history and traverse idealistic concept of history that heroes created the history, correctly solve the leader-mass relations and leader-party relations, ensure leaders under the supervision of party and masses, adhere to the democracy-centralization system and collective leadership, ban multiform personality cult, eliminate the influence of feudalistic remains, develop socialist market economy in a big way and develop socialist democracy.
