The Influence Of NATO's Eastwards Expansion On Russia's Geopolitical Environment

The Disintegration of the Soviet Union which happened in the late 1980s has deep impact not only on Soviet Union itself but also on world policy and economy. Even today, the transition is still affecting the world politic pattern.NATO, the heritage of Cold War, haven't eliminate with the end of Cold War. On the contrary, it shows its formidable vitality through its eastward expansion and the disintegration of Soviet Union.It is hard to measure the influence of NATO's eastwards expansion on international politic and economy, it not only has changed the europe's politic pattern but also deep influence Russia's geopolitical environment.Obviously, the purpose of NATO's eastwards expansion is to restrain the Russia and to prevent the re-risen of Russia.The adverse consequence of NATO's eastwards expansion to Russia and the measures the Russia had taken to reply are the key problems we need to investigate and study. Based on other people' research results ,analyzing from Russia's traditional geopolitical politic view, the author discuss and demonstrate the NATO's eastwards expansion's impact on Russia's geopolitics environment and analyze the strategies that Russia had taken to maintain it's own national advantages in the adverse politic environment.The kernels of the article include:First of all, the actuality of Russia's geopolitical environment.The author thinks the geopolitical environment of Russia is getting worse than ever before along with the NATO's eastwards expansion. For instance, leading by the U.S., NATO is now regarding some areas such as East Europe, Middle Asia and ex-Soviet Union countries as a more and more important tools to compress Russia's living space. Along with the westernized of the countries which surrounded the Russia, it has less and less influence on them.Second, analyses the influence of NATO's eastwards expansion on Russia from its historical develop view. The influences are: imperiling the Russia's mainland security, eliminating the influence of ideology of Russia and making against the re-risen of RussiaThird, the reactions that Russia had taken in response of the adverse geopolitical environment. It includes: improving of relationship with EU and US, strengthening the relationship with CIS and other countries and developing the relationship with Asia countries actively and other measures.
