Career commitment is one of hot problems of Organizational Behavior and vocational psychology. And it is the focus of commitment study after organization commitment. At present, the study objects of career commitment mostly are employees, teachers, etc. So this research will study police's career commitment.This research has random sampled 145 shanghai police as objects to study the structure of police's career commitment through interview method. The constant comparative method was the specific technique used to code and understand these data. Over three successive phases of analyses these quotes were clustered into internally homogeneous and externally heterogeneous groups. Finally, this research find out that the structure of police's career commitment include four factors: affective commitment, normative commitment, cost commitment and opportunity commitment.Based on the results of these factors, the questionnaire of police's career commitment has been made. This research used the questionnaire to collected the data from 4848 shanghai police. These data has been analyzed by the method of confirmatory Factor analysis. The results have indicated that the four-factors model of police's career commitment is better than other five models on the indications of X~2/df, SRMR, RMSEA, GFI, AGFI, NNFI. These results suggest that the four-factors method is reasonable and optimized.In addition, this research has compared the best-performed police to the common police on the four factors of police's career commitment. The results have indicated that: There are very significantly different between the two groups on the score of affective commitment and normative commitment. The significant level reaches to 0.000. And there is significantly different on the score of cost commitment. There is not significantly different on the score of opportunity commitment. This results suggest that the affective commitment and normative commitment level of best-performed police is significantly higher than common police. The cost commitment level of best-performed police is higher than common police. And the opportunity commitment level of best-performed police is as high as common police.This research also studies the relationship between score of MMPI and score of four factors though 187 shanghai police. And the results are that there is not significantly relationship between the most score of MMPI and score of four factors. This suggests that the police's score of MMPI can hardly predict the level of career commitment.
