Contemporary China is experiencing two great transformations — society changes and construction transformations, and ommunity autonomy is a main content in construction transformation. It has become an inevitable and important problem facing the Chinese characteristic socialism to realize modernization. It is a great history mission that the history gives Chinese theoretical researchers to realize the perfect combination between Marxist theories and contemporary China that leads community autonomy practices on better way.The basic theories and the social foundation of community and community autonomy have been analyzed theoretically in this paper. We discuss the positive influence of community development on grass- roots democracy developments, and the existing problems by analyzing the social foundation —the gradual development of Chinese civil society, and the existent rationality according to the analysis with the classic theories concerning the nation and society of Marxism. As a conclusion, the primary problem is the management systems, and the basic reason is that community democracy is dislocated with democracy of nation. We think that they are consistent and can interact mutually to provide the mechanism of science and vaster development space for community autonomy. Therefore we should conform to the trend of democratic development in community, improve the lead of Communist Party of China in community autonomy, carry out completely the " three representatives" thoughts, enhance system developments and expand democracy practices to improve the political character of community residents in order to realize community autonomy.
