As the key to interstate relations in South Asia, Indo-Pakistani relationship is a determiner of South Asia policies of other nations. The political, economic and security interdependence as well as cultural interactions between India and Pakistan is considerably blocked by the protracted disharmony between the two neighbors. Both casual and inherent factors have resulted in the disharmony and a series of confrontational incidents between them after the Independence and the Partition. Until 2003 the Indo-Pakistan relations had undergone little change even as a prevailing mood of detente worldwide appeared in the post-Cold War period. As a new development, the Indo-Pak amity since 2003 has enhanced the expectations for overcoming the decades-old antagonism and bringing about a conflict-free South Asia.The recent improvement of Indo-Pakistan relations is characterized with stability, credulity and reasonability, which is deeply contrasted with previous phased of fluctuation and volatility. Due to the dramatic change of international affairs, it will be almost impossible to track the latest developments of Indo-Pakistan relations. But tentative observations and analyses still make it significant to envisage the prospects of the interaction in South Asia.First, this article focuses on a chain of major incidents occurring around India-Pakistan relations and attempts to decipher its multiple origins and dynamism...
