The Indo-US relations have undergone the dramatic transformation in the newera of the21stcentury. With the efforts of the heads from the two countries, thepartnerships have been rapidly developed from bilateral level to the global strategiclevel, especially after President Obama assuming in the office. The two countries’efforts to build up the strategic partnership within the global scope are to meet theirenlarged strategic ambitions. Since the foundation of the Republic of India, Indo-USrelations have experienced three stages including nonalignment of the Nehruvian Era,realism of Post-Nehru Era and the dramatic transformation of Indo-US globalstrategic relationship in21STCentury. India and the United States recently reach theconsensus,“an ever more powerful and influential India in the international arena isdeeply in America’s national interest. An America that maintains its power andinfluence in the international arena, especially in Asia, is deeply in India’s nationalinterest.”Located at the analytic hierarchy process theory of internationals relations, thereason for the dramatic transformation of Indo-US relations is mainly owing to theirvalues to each other. Represented by Jawaharlal Nehru, Indian elites identify that, since its foundation, India is doomed to play an important role in the world. India isworking to improve its status as great power and its voice in the world stage. India’sstrategic of strengthening Indo-US relations will bring benefits to its social andeconomic development. As the sole extra-regional superpower since the end of ColdWar, the United States will never allow any country’s challenge of its hegemony anylonger. By means of strengthening Indo-US relations, the United States will not onlyaccomplish its Indian Ocean goal but also protect its interests and keep its leadingadvantage in Asia-pacific area. More importantly, India will become an activemember of a US-led China containment policy, India’s rising in Asian-Pacific regionwill contain China’s emergence. As the world staged into the critical period of big development, big changes and big adjustment, India and the Unites States have adjusted their foreign policy to eachother, improving the Indo-US relations from bilateral level to the global strategicpartnership, extending their strategic partnership of global dimensions on the base oftheir bilateral engagement. Such changes have not only brought profound influence inSouth Asia but also affect India-China-US triangle. As an assumption from India, theUnited States will view India as a partner and China will most likely be a competitorand at worst a rival.
