Prison production, as an institution for the correction of convicts, is one of the major measures aimed at correcting convicts and has played a vital role in promoting the correction of convicts, maintaining social stability, and facilitating the development of the prison administration cause, with significant results produced. However, with the constant deepening of China's political and economic systems and the gradual formation of the market economic system, many paradoxes, difficulties and problems have gradually surfaced; in particular, the management system in which prison and enterprise are combined into one has failed to meet the needs of prison administration, severely hampered the progress of prison work, and affected the quality of the correction of convicts in prison. This paper tackles many of the shortcomings of the combined prison and enterprise system, conducts a systematic analysis, elaborates on the reasons for separating prison from enterprise, and expounds the author's basic conception for the separation of prison from enterprise. This paper consists of four parts:Part I, Overview of the Prison Management System, starts with a description of the basic function of Chinese prisons, gives an account of the process of the formation of the combined prison and enterprise system and the unsuitability of the system under the market economic conditions, and provides a brief overview of the gestation process of the prison-enterprise system reform.Part II, Analysis of the Shortcoming of Combining Prison with Enterprise. The shortcomings of the combined prison and enterprise system are analyzed from three aspects, the alienation of the prison functions, the impact of prison law enforcement and the weakened quality for prison correction, which demonstrates that the system has lost the environment and foundation for its survival.Part III, Analysis of the Separation of Prison from Enterprise, starts with the needs to intensifying prison functions and the requirements of enterprise production and demonstrates that the separation of prison from enterprise is an overwhelming trend, and expounds the infeasibility of prison running an enterprise, thereby deriving the conclusion that separating prison from enterprise is an inevitable trend.Part IV, Probe of the Model for Separating prison from Enterprise, begins with...
