China and India share a prolonged boundary line and there are complicated factors including international law, geopolitics and occurrences around the China-India border disputes .Today the resumption of the bilateral relations and their perceiving willingness to negotiate a settlement of the prolonged territorial disputes between them rouse a renewed interest to probe into the geopolitical factors influencing this major problem.The paper is divided into four parts. Part one explores the theories of geopolitics contributed mainly by Western scholars suggesting that these theoretical frameworks help understand the differences and difficulties in perceiving modern boundary from 1800to 1947 in right perspective, and shows a special interest in the origins of the China-India border disputes including the relevance of the"McMahon Line Issue"and "Johnson-Ardagh Line Issue". The author attempts to explain how the highly controversial borders were arbitrarily drawn and how they have caused the border disputes between China and India since the 1950s. With the independence in the Subcontinent, the China-India relations walked into the third stage. The border issue during this period becomes the concern of Part Three. India and China had enjoyed their close relations and a friendly border until 1962 when Beijing and New Delhi were, unfortunately, involved in a major border war.
