Compared with Bill Clinton Administration, great changes had taken place about American Asian policy after George W. Bush became the president of the United States of America. In order to maintain and consolidate American hegemonic status, Bush turned US target to those big countries like China. But the 'Sept. 11' event forced Bush to adjust his former policies. After the 'Sept. 11' event, the Asian policy of Bush Administration started to turnaround. Bush made various efforts to establish a new security alliance in Asia, which is supposed to focus on anti-terrorism so as to protect US strategic interest in Asia and maintain its advantage in Asian strategic situation. According to this concern, Bush made relevant changes to the policies of East Asia, Southeast Asia, South Asia, Middle East and Middle Asia. But no matter how Bush tries to adjust his Asian policy, the importance of China keeps improving. Although "contiguity and cooperation" becomes the main trend between America and China, Bush made continuous efforts to check China both in direct and indirect ways, in order to contain China's process of peacefully rising.
