American neoconservatism is a very important political thought that came into being in late 1960s and early 1970s. And the thought is mainly represented by American neoconservatives. This paper mainly discusses the major strategic views and policies of neoconservatism and what influence did neoconservatism have on George W. Bush Administration. The major strategic view of neoconservatism is that unipolarism should be the main theme of the international order and the United States should try to maintain its global leadership for American national interests. To achieve the goal, the United States should rely on such policies as preemption, building military power and promoting American values. The development of neoconservatism reached its climax in George W. Bush Administration, especially after the September 11th terrorist attacks, with the launch of the War in Afghanistan and the Iraq War. However, the war in Iraq led to a series of serious consequences and the United States was deeply caught in the war. Therefore, neoconservatism has its limitations and weakness. Although at the moment neoconservatism is not as influential as it used to be, it is still expected to influence American foreign policy in the future.
