A Study On The Group Counseling Of The Interpersonal Communication For The Male Criminals

At present, prisons in China attach more and more importance to mental health of criminals. Most prisons create mental health files of criminals and use psychological methods to help criminals adapt to the prison environment quickly and behave better. Though such practice comes forth everywhere, but most lack of support of basic theory and thorough researches. This research investigates and analyzes the male adult criminals' problem of interpersonal communication, then designs group training program and put it into practice, aiming at raising male adult criminals' ability of interpersonal communication, decreasing interpersonal conflict, improving interpersonal relationship. The research is to make a special pattern of psychological correction, which is also a reference of subsequent research..This research adapts "diagnostic scale for interpersonal behavioral puzzlement" and develops "retarding factor questionnaire of interpersonal communication". In the former one, six factors are obtained through factor analysis. They are interpersonal conflict, aggression, constraint, introversion, self-abasement and reticency. In the latter one, five factors are obtained, they are cowardice, arrogance, dissociableness, egotism and sensitivity-irritability. Two scales both have high reliability and validity. To find out the criminals' circumstance of interpersonal communication, 125 criminals are drawn out randomly. Based on these, we design pertinent group training program.There are two groups in this research, one is experimental group, another is control group. 8 members in experimental group are received 10 times' group training in 3 months. We do nothing to the control group. After group training, the results show that: in diagnostic scale for interpersonal behavioral puzzlement, two groups have significant difference in whole level and self-abasement, the circumstance of experimental group is much better than the control group. The problems of interpersonal behavioral puzzlement have decreased comparing before the intervention, especially in the factor constraint and reticency. In retarding factor questionnaire of interpersonal communication, two groups have significant difference, the experimental group's retarding factors of interpersonal communication have decreased, but two groups have no difference in any single factor. The experimental group has improved dramatically after intervention, especially in the factor cowardice and sensitivity-irritability. Combined with self-report contents of members in the experimental group, the results also show that: The experimental group's ability of interpersonal communication has been raised and interpersonal relationship has been improved. Comparing before the intervention, members in experimental group have higher self-evaluation and self-acceptance. From the study we can find:1) The criminals' problems of interpersonal behavioral puzzlement can be improved and retarding factors of interpersonal communication also can be decreased by pertinent group training.2) In prison environment, using group training program of this research is feasible and effective in improving criminals' interpersonal relationship and raising their ability of interpersonal communication, but the prison and criminals' circumstance should be taken into consideration in designing group training program.
