Since American psychologist Hoppock first introduced the conceptof "job satisfaction" in his Job Satisfaction in 1935, there have been alarge number of relative studies. But as for China, research in the field isnot enough neither in width nor in depth, especially the degree of theinternalization of approaches and results. This study, taking a specialgroup——jail police stuff as participants, applied overall job satisfactionquestionnaire and self-made Questionnaire. on the Factors that Inflencetthe Job Satisfaction of the Jail Police in Hunan Province as toolsintending to carry out a deep discussion on job satisfaction Suggestionswere proposed on the basis of the data collected in the survey. This research developed two aspects. On the one hand, overall jobsatisfaction questionnaire was used to investigate job satisfaction of theparticipants. The result shows that they have job satisfaction of a middledegree, slightly above the ideal average value 3. The results of varianceanalysis based on population variables suggest that gender, education didnot have a significant impact on the job satisfaction while age, marriage,serving-year, rank and position did.On the other hand, the author carried out a survey on the factors thatmay affect the job satisfaction of the participants. First, work out aquestionnaire of pertinence was a necessary before formal investigation. The items of the questionnaire was based on literature, interview to theparticipants and open survey. Finally, 69 items were collected by applyingitem-analysis and factor-analysis. After a survey to more than 800 validparticipants, six factors are found to affect the job satisfaction of the jailpolice: opportunity for further development, salary, administration and leadership style, matching between person and job, corporative situationof team members and objective working environment. Test of validity andreliability showed that the questionnaire had met the requirements ofpsychometrics. The results of confirmatory factor analysis shows thatthe theoretical model is identical with the sample datas and has arelatively stable structure. At the end of this report, the author analyzed some possible problemsin jail system on the basis of the datas and information collected in thesurvey. Suggestions aiming at the problems are proposed also.
