Ma Ying-jeou's Political Views And The Influences On Cross-strait Relationship

Although Ma Ying-jeou has resigned from the post of KMT chairman, he still owns the biggest power and effect in KMT. So it is very important to research his political views.Ma Ying-jeou's political views can't be isolated from the situation in which he stands. The core of the Taiwan issue is the relationship between America and China, so Ma Ying-jeou's political views are restricted by China factor and American factor, and the factor in Taiwan also affects him directly. In the first part of this thesis we mainly inquire all these factors affect on Ma's Political views.The first part of this thesis, we also inquire Ma's specific character, such as China complex, academic background, democratic pursuit and a non-taiwan status, we believe all these factors also exert much impact on Ma's views.In the second chapter, we inquire Ma's main views .Firstly, the opinion on cross-strait relationship, such as keeping the current situation, back to the "92 consensus" , "Five Do's"( including resuming cross-strait dialogue based on the "1992 consensus", negotiating and concluding a peace framework, normalizing economic relations between the two sides, Taiwan's international participation, cultural and educational exchanges); Ultimate integration theory. Secondly, the opinions on the inner affairs of Taiwan. Including the historical and legal status of Taiwan , nationality unity and harmonious society. Thirdly, a comparison to his main opponents , including Xie Changting and Wang Jing pin.The third chapter mainly focuses on Ma Ying-jeou's political views and the prospect of cross-strait relationship. There are two obstacles to Ma's presidential election, The first is that Ma has been accused of misusing special allowance funds, and the other is his being blamed lack of reign ability. When Ma wins the presidential election, it will bring some advantageous effect to Cross-strait relationship, but mainland must face some new problems. On the other hand , if KMT fails again , the situation of cross-strait relationship will become more complex.
