The status of mainland policy plays a key role in the party politics of Taiwan. As a pivotal part of Taiwan's party politics, the DPP(Democratic Progressive Party)has a great impact on cross-strait relations whenever it is a ruling party or oppositional party. On one hand, when the DPP worked as an oppositional party from 2008 to 2016,it had made minute adjustment on the "Taiwan independence" policy in order to facilitate the election. On the other hand,it had put forward a series of policy to ease the cross-strait relations. To be more detailed,in the sphere of economy, the DPP advocated to develop economy with mainland China in a cautious way in order to maintain its economy independence. At the same time, the DPP continued to implement the policy of "cultural independence" which was widely practiced during the rule of Chen Shui-bian.Apart from these, the DPP also tried to influence Ma Ying-jeou's cross-strait policy by make full use of systems within and outside, aiming at promoting cross-strait relations. However,as the political environment of Taiwan evolved, both parties gradually turn themselves from missionary party to brokerage party, and their policies and notions are more prone to follow public will. What is more,as the number of middle voters becomes larger, the reform of electoral system, and the other social factors,it seems that two parties are becoming similar. To conclude,as an oppositional party, the DPP has influenced and restricted the Ma Ying-jeou's cross-strait relations.Progressive Party existed only as an oppositional party between 2008 and 2016,its influence on the policy of cross-strait relations was not negligible. This paper,by referring to the content and practice of political party political theory, will go through from three aspects of the DPP's mainland policy to explain and analyze. At the first,it will tell how Democratic Progressive Party made the influence on the policy of cross-strait relations of Ma Ying-Jeou administration.Secondly,it will analysis from the specific case of the DPP's policy of the mainland and its impact on cross-strait relations.Thirdly,it will analysis the impact of such a policy on the KMT(Kuomintang),the DPP itself and cross-strait relations.
