Central Asia, the hinterland and joint-point of the Eurasia, is of great geo-strategic values.Central Asia also has the abundant natural energy resources, especially oil and gas, and it iscalled the third largest energy center in the world. Therefore, Central Asia is inevitably the objectand goal that every power struggles to pursue.After the Cold war, Five Central-Asian countries win independence, and form the politicalvacuum. This makes it possible that every power comes to it. America, as the only superpower inthe world, has national interests as international and naturally takes Central Asia as the importantarea to realize its national interest. American interests in Central Asia are: to maintain theregion's stability mainly by anti-terrorism; to prevent one power or power group in the Eurasia tochallenge American hegemony; to struggle to control the energy resource in the region; topropagate American democracy. This adequately embodies the traditional traits of Americanforeign policy, which is the perfect combination of idealism and realism.After the Cold war, America tried its best to filter its power to Central Asia and formed itCentral Asian strategy. And with the development of international situation, America has madefour main adjustments to its strategy. Its strategic goal is more varied, methods more ripe, effectsmore obvious. The adjustments no doubt exert great influence on Central-Asian countries, and itsneighbors Russia,China. Russia and China takes some countermeasures to cope with American'spermeation to Central Asia.The paper takes geo-political theory as a tool to study American strategy adjustmentstoward Central Asia, and its behaviors, traits and influences in different periods. On this basis,does an analysis on the measures taken by Russia, China, and five Central-Asia states, thusprovides theoretical and policy references for China to understand American strategic aim toCentral Asia, carry out the diplomacy to Central Asia and develop the relations with them and torealize our national interests.
