On The Construction Of Harmonious Society Under The Challenge Of Unexpected Events Of Historical Significance

Taking the advantage of the latest documents and exemplified by the Snowstorm in Southern China in early 2008, the thesis gives a close investigation on the influence and revelation of unexpected events of historical significance upon the construction of harmonious society.The thesis consists of five parts. The first part mainly deals with the prior concern, purpose and significance of the study. The prior concern of the thesis is how can we achieve the aim to construct a harmonious society under the challenge of unexpected events of historical significance and intends to have thoroughgoing introspection on the disharmonious factors appeared in the process of the construction of harmonious society from the angle of history so as to promote the study of history especially that of instant history. Hence the study is of great theoretical and practical significance. Based on the carefully selected news reports about the early 2008 snowstorm in Southern China, the first chapter manages to sketch the general process of the snowstorm and the responses of different people in the process of the snowstorm. It is of great historical importance in the process of the construction of harmonious society because it is a test for Chinese rather than a disaster.The existing study on the issue of the construction of harmonious society here in China usually attaches great importance to the active and positive factors which influence the construction of harmonious society instead of the negative ones while the snowstorm in early 2008 in Southern China provides a good opportunity to study the issue from the negative aspect. So in the second chapter, the emphasis will lie on the disharmonious factors the snowstorm brought upon the country such as the slow initiation and operation of the emergency response system, the serious deficiency of the civil self-help organization, the inconvenient information channel, the delay of the news report, the vulnerable infrastructures and the disharmonious relationship between man and nature etc. At the same time, this part tries to illustrate the historical lesson that the unexpected events of historical significance may highlight the disharmonious factors in a harmonious society.The third chapter aims at summarizing two striking problems the snowstorm brings upon, which are the disharmony between man and nature and the disharmony between government and civil organizations. The emphasis will lie on the analysis of ancient China's ideology of "unity between man and heaven" and harmonious concept in western society. A conclusion will be drawn in the end of the chapter that the ideology of "unity between man and nature" has its modern function to solve the problem of the disharmony between man and nature while the harmonious concept in western society helps to solve the disharmony between government and civil organizations in oriental China.Finally, solutions will be put forward on the basis of the summary of the whole thesis, i.e. firstly adhering to the value orientation of human-oriented concept and the coordinate development of man; secondly persisting in implementing the view of scientific development as the guidance of the construction of socialist material civilization; thirdly attaching great importance to honesty, fraternal-love, fairness and justice in the society for the benefit of the construction of socialist spiritual civilization; fourthly adhering to democratic and political reform and properly balancing the relationship between the government and civil organizations for the benefit of the construction of socialist political civilization and finally pursuing the harmony between man and nature for the benefit of the construction of socialist ecological civilization.
