The Situation Evolvement Of Afghanistan After Cold War And The Security Of Xinjiang

After cold war, the civil war of Afghanistan brought marked effect on its surrounding areas, including China's Xinjiang, this effect must not be overlooked. After 9.11, U.S. troops entered Afghanistan and its surrounding areas together with Afghanistan war, this changed the geo-strategic situation of Xinjiang's surrounding areas and brought indispensable effect on the security of Xinjiang. Since 2005, Taliban has recovered from failure, Karzai administration and U.S. troops reinforced military strikes against Taliban. The situation of Afghanistan is unpredictable. No matter what would happen in Afghanistan, it would exert indispensable effect on the security and stabilization of Xinjiang. Therefore, it will be urgent to clear up the comings and goings of Afghanistan situation after cold war and its reasons, study the effect of these evolvements towards the security of Xinjiang and put forward answering strategies, so as to give feasible suggestions for the security, stabilization and development of Xinjiang.Except introduction and conclusion, this paper can be divided into four parts. The first part, putting USSR's withdraw, Taliban's coming into power and Afghanistan War as spacing points, looking back the situation evolvement of Afghanistan after the cold war, divides it into three periods and discusses them. The second part analyzes factors affecting the situation evolvement of Afghanistan after the cold war. Its internal factors mainly include economy, nationality and religion while its external factors mainly include geo-politics, transnational nationalities, Islamic fundamentalism and transnational crimes. The third part analyzes the effect of Afghanistan situation on the security of Xinjiang in different periods, and makes a simple prediction of the future situation of Afghanistan. The fourth part, on the basis of analyzing the situation evolvement of Afghanistan and its effect on the security of Xinjiang, puts forward some suggestions for enhancing the border security of Xinjiang's southwest areas.
