American Southeast Asian Strategy After The Cold War And America-Indonesia Relation Study

America-Indonesia bilateral relation has gone through the complex changes and profound adjustment since the ending of the Cold war. The reason of causing the situation is not only the political interest tussle, but also the economic and military consideration between the two countries. Moreover, many experts and scholars have the different explanation for this issue. This paper carries out the relevant analysis for the America-Indonesia Relation on the basis of the international relation theory, especially the international strategy theory. Meanwhile, it thinks the American Southeast Asian Strategy is the prime reason for the changes and development about the America-Indonesia bilateral Relation. After the cold war , because America carries out the Selective Engagement strategy in southeast Asian , the America-Indonesia bilateral economic relation acquires rapid development and the interdependence between the two countries get continuously deepened in the initial stage, while the bilateral political relation also relatively keep calm. After the Asian financial crisis, America actively begins to fulfill the Democracy Expansion strategy in Southeast Asian so that the America-Indonesia bilateral political relation shows many difficulties and hardships and the economic relation between the two countries is involved in the relative shrinkage. After the 911 terror attack, America starts to construct the anti-terrorism alliance in southeast Asian, and these endeavor leads to the renewed development of political relation between the two countries. Furthermore, they also cause a warming tendency toward America-Indonesia bilateral economic relation.
