2008 is the 60th anniversary of the publishing of Universal Declaration of Human rights as well as the 30th anniversary of China's reform and opening up. Human rights is the product of the progress of human society, and the emergence of the ideas and theories of human rights prominently marked the progress of human society and civilization. Fully realizing and enjoying the human rights is the common ideal and objective pursued by all human beings. During the past 30 years of reform and opening up, China has been undergoing great changes in politics, economy, culture and other aspects, operating on the "people-oriented" principle and striving to realize the basic rights of Chinese people.The paper begins with the elaboration the development of human rights both in west and ancient China. It discusses the development of human rights in starting and developing stages of Communist Party respectively, analyzing and comparing the ideas and theories of human rights by Chinese leaders Mao Zedong, Deng Xiaoping, Jiang Zemin and Hu Jintao. This paper also expounds how Chinese government and people combine the universal principles of human rights with China's actual conditions as well as the great efforts they've made when promoting and protecting the human rights of Chinese people in politics, economy, culture, legal system, social environment and etc since the beginning of reform and opening up policy. In the paper, the author presents the splendid achievements China has made in the development and protection of human rights of collective and individuals, especially the human rights of women, children and the handicapped in the aspect of collective and the rights of existence, the rights of development, civil rights, political rights, economic rights, social rights and cultural rights, etc in individuals. The paper explicates the feature of human rights of China that is the unity of collective and individuals, the rights and obligations.Guided by the concept of scientific development, the author uses the research methods of the integration of theory with practice, the unity of generalization and specialty, and the combination of politics, economics sociology and history, exploring the development of human rights of China during the past 30 years of reform and opening up, which is of certain theoretical and practical importance.
