Taiwan issue is China's internal affair. However, due to U.S. interference, the Taiwan issue has not been able to successfully solve the problem. Analysis of U.S. policy toward Taiwan, will help us understand and forecast U.S. policy toward Taiwan, and formulate corresponding measures, an early settlement of the Taiwan issue.U.S. policy toward Taiwan in different historical periods have different changes. But on the whole, United States policy toward Taiwan is to maintain the fundamental criterion for the United States hegemony in the Asia-Pacific region, maintaining the U.S. strategic interests in the Asia-Pacific region and contain a rising China. U.S. policy toward Taiwan's China policy is one of the important contents, but also by the United States Asia-Pacific strategy and the impact of global strategy. After the Cold War, the United States policy toward Taiwan is clearly different from the Cold War policy toward Taiwan. The same in the post-Cold War era, the Bush administration's Taiwan policy is also different from the Clinton administration's Taiwan policy. In today's new situation, Obama's policy toward Taiwan government must also make appropriate adjustments.Obama changes in government policy toward Taiwan has a lot of motivation. U.S. domestic political factors, the development of Sino-US relations as well as changes in the situation in Taiwan will affect the Obama government policy toward Taiwan. Expansion of the global strategy of the United States will be transformed into contraction, the corresponding, U.S. policy toward Taiwan will also begin to shrink. The U.S. Congress and interest groups will influence the Government's specific policy toward Taiwan. The United States will be combined with Sino-US relations and the situation in Taiwan to adjust its policy toward Taiwan in order to protect its own strategic interests. In the military policy, the United States will continue to sell military weapons to Taiwan, but the quantity and the performance of the Bush administration will be less difficult to obtain. In the economic and trade policy, the United States intends to strengthen economic and trade relations with Taiwan, but based on the current economic environment, may be unable to. The United States to help Taiwan's "international space expansion" will begin to slow down the pace, on this issue will be more to seek China's understanding and support.Obama changes in government policy toward Taiwan, both conducive to maintaining stability across the Taiwan Straits, but also conducive to the development of Sino-US relations. We must seize this historic opportunity to improve and develop cross-strait relations, the strengthening of Sino-US relations, and promote the reunification of the motherland at an early date.
