The Study Of NATO Strategic Transformation After 9·11

As the most important military and political organization in the world, North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) which is captained by the U.S. is the most successful strategic alliance in the history. NATO originates form the Cold War, and is established by U.S. and western European countries to deal with Soviet Union and Warsaw Treaty Organization (WTO).After the collapse of Soviet Union and WTO and Cold War, without attenuating and disrupting, NATO has being playing a very crucial role in the international political stage through adjustment. And in order to response non-traditional security threat such as terrorism, NATO adjusts its own strategy after 9·11 incident. So the study of NATO strategy transformation after 9·11 is very important.This paper is made up of three parts. The first part introduces briefly NATO strategic condition before 9·11.It recalls the establishment and change of NATO during the Cold War period, and narrates the practise of NATO enlargement and development of new strategy post-Cold War. As the main point of the paper, the second part expounds the adjustment of NATO in detail after 9·11.It analyses concretely NATO strategic transformation through four NATO summit. The third part summarizes three factors which affect NATO strategic transformation, namely Russia, America and Europe.
