The political reality is shaped by the change of times. Likewise, it is obvious that NATO's strategy, its nature and functions are generally changed with the change of times and space. NATO is a reflection of international structure since the Cold War, the transition of its functions also reflects the state's pursuit of security, order and welfare. This dissertation mainly analyzes NATO's transformation from the macro and micro level.First of all, the dissertation tries to discuss two fundamental propositions that are based on the theoretical logic of NATO's transformation. First, the dissertation demonstrates the necessity of legitimacy and efficiency that NATO needs to mold by describing the theoretical logic of NATO's transformation. Second, the transformation is a process for legalization as well as a course for balancing power and pursuing interests within the organization. What's more, combined the strategic reality of NATO's transformation, the research is designed to take the structural and non-structural factors which affect NATO such as the anarchy and the state's external behavior as the object so as to analyze NATO's transformation process. In conclusion, the dissertation seeks to verify a final conclusion through the above analysis, that is, a realism logic throughout NATO's 60 years history ---- the security threat and the competition for interests of great powers caused by the continuing anarchy have long been a decisive role to the transformation of NATO.
