National image is the comprehensive evaluation and impressions of one country in other countries' eyes. It is a manifestation of national comprehensive strength, but also the most important asset of a country. It is closely related to a country on status and reputation in the world, can influence the direction of international relations and thus in the world, every country attaches great importance to building national image.In recent years, the United States and other Western media constantly filled with one voice: to demonize China, such voices have affected China's national image. Especially in 2008, "3.14" incident, part of the Western media distorted coverage of China, making China's national image of a crisis situation.This paper attempts from the "New York Times" in terms of the world mainstream media analysis, first-hand information on the possession, starting from the fact that the corresponding quantity for analysis, through contras statistical data before and aftert, and to find the country's image problem , and then explores the solutions for Chinese in shaping the national image.Choose text of "The New York Times," April 8, 2008 to May 8 reports concerning China. Three major events (Tibet "3.14" incident, Jin Jing Cafferty case and case) happened after the occurrence and the time when China faces pressure of international public opinion, some Western media distorted media coverage of China, leading the Chinese national image of a disastrous decline, into a crisis situation.Chapter One studies a synthesis of research introduction, research background and current research level, etc;Chapter Two bases on this period of "New York Times" reports of China-related Quantitative analysis, summing up the number, type and tendentious analysis;Chapter Three introduced the "New York Times" reports related to a qualitative analysis of China, introduced the reports of positive and negative reports, and analyzed reports related to China this time as reflected in the crisis situation of China's national imageChapter Four analyses the causes of the national image of crisis of China's interpretation, from the national interests, ideology, the concept of media reports, business background, cultural differences, the position information of "New York Times" reports and the Chinese government's information control;Chapter Five sets out recommendations to improve the image of China , including the establishment of the "image crisis" management system , developing a long-term propaganda strategy , settinig up the right of China to speak in the world , and carrying out public diplomacy, etc. From strategy , the right to speak , external transmission and non-governmental forces ,this article forces on improving the national image of China.On the whole this paper are around to ask questions - analysis of problem - to solve the problem thinking, hoping this can be innovative, make a breakthrough at the basis of previous research.
