National image is an important factor to evaluate the influence and acceptance of a country's policies in the world, and also affects the development of national relations. In the information age, mass media have penetrated into every corner of the society. With the advantage of communication, they have played a role in shaping the national image of other countries by reporting relevant news. The recognition of the national image is one of the key factors to improve the Sino-Canadian relations. Therefore, understanding the construction of the national image of China by the Canadian media can reveal the crux of the slow development of Sino-Canadian relations. It can also promote the development of Sino-Canadian relations. The National Post is one of the three major newspapers in Canada and it is well-known in Canada. This article analyzes China-related reports from 2014 to 2018 and uses content analysis method to analyzes the related reports. The result is that the image of China on National post is negative, especially in the aspect of political and social. But in term of economy and culture, the reports are relatively objective, and the reports of military are the least. In the eyes of National post,China is authoritarian, lacking human rights and freedom, and it has a low degree of cultural tolerance.Despite its rising economic strength,China still has economic problems. Many social problems that have been accumulated for a long time have not been effectively solved.Through literature review,in addition to National post, the coverage of China by the Globe and Mail and the Toronto Star also has a negative tone, which is caused by objective factors such as media's critical and economical characteristics and the differences in cultural values,as well as the deliberate pursuit of a particular national interest. In short, while improving ourselves,we need to step up exchanges and communication, increase mutual understanding and trust with Canada to reverse cognitive bias and promote the relationship between China and Canada.
