| In the context of economic globalization,after the occurrence of public crisis,how the government handles the crisis in a timely and effective manner and responds to the expectations of the people of the country and the international community is the key to testing national governance system and governance capabilities,and it also has a direct impact on the building of the country’s image.This article first defines the public crisis and the country’s image,analyzes their respective characteristics,and introduces the two theories used in the article.Then it analyzes the composition of the country’s image from the perspectives of self-shaping and other-shaping and how the public crisis affects it.Thus,the analysis framework of this article is come up—the country’s image is divided into four types,namely star type,growth type,passive type and problem type,and how the public crisis affects them.In fact,the four types are not isolated and a public crisis may undergo several types of transformation from outbreak to resolution.And then,this article takes China’s response to COVID-19 as an example to analyze the "self-shaping" and "other-shaping" processes of China’s national image according to the four stages of the development of the epidemic.During the epidemic,China’s national image has roughly experienced a transition process from problem type to the growth type to the star type.It further analyzes the different factors existing in the process of "self-shaping" and "other-shaping".Finally,this article puts forward five suggestions for building a positive and good country image in the context of public crisis: first,to release information openly and transparently;second,to build a responsible government;third,to report news objectively and fairly;fourth,to strengthen international cooperation;fifth,to deepen public diplomacy. |
