Since the 1970s, the ageing of population has gradually become a global trend. As China is a country with the largest population in the world, it has her own characteristics in the process of population ageing. In the first half of the 21st century, the number of senior citizens will be on the continous increase. It is estimated that the percentage of senior citixens above 65 will amount to 23% when the summit arrives. Therefore, China will be confronting the fierce challenge of ageing population, and this challenge is even tougher in urban areas where the problems concerning ageing population are getting more and more noticeable, such as tending elderly people, their health care and lack of spiritual comfort. Shenyang, one of the most significant cities in North China, has a long history and large population, out of which are senior citizens in great number. The various problems caused by the ageing population have emerged gradually. And consequently, the government is faced with a tough task to solve these problems effectively.Based on Opinions about Forwarding Pension Service in Urban Areas issued recently, this dissertation gives an introduction to and makes a comparison between the present situation of urban pension service in Shenyang and that in other representative cities both at home and abroad, analyzes the major setbacks that pension service in Shenyang has suffered, discusses the feasibility and superiority of pension service in urban communities, proposes some countermeasures to solve these problems accordingly.
