On The Reconstruction Of Social Support Network About The Community Correction Objects

Community correction in China has made great progress since the enactment of the< announcement on the execution of community correction pilot project> in July 2003, along with the booming researches on the related subject, however, most of the studies are concentrated more on theories, with only a few of them based on case studies of those been corrected. In this thesis, by using the method of qualitative research, the theoretical perspective of social support networks, and the analytical tools of "different relationship pattern", I focused on the reconstruction of the social support network for the correction receivers in a Shanghai Community.This first section of the thesis started with two stories about the correction receivers'attitude towards people around them, then proceeded further to the views they perceived on their social support network, the research background, and the 3 problems this article is focused on came next which are: 1. how the correction receivers changed their views about the social support network after got correction; 2. how their perceptions on these changes; 3. the influences of these changes for these correction receivers. After giving out why I was interested in the subject, I defined the core conceptions on community correction, Shanghai Model, social support network, social network and differential mode of association. In the last part of section one, I also provided details on the methodology, process, validity and ethic on this reach. After literatures reviews, outlined the research framework.Section 3 and 4 are key parts of this thesis. Section 3 generalized the community researched in Shanghai and all the persons investigated. In section 4, the differentiation model of association is used as the analytical tool, I found out for different community correction receivers, they first met living problems after backing to the community from jails, and social support network would help them on living, housing, heath, social recognition and society adaption, but with different support networks, came different results. Social workers, as the key link for the support network, play a vital role in helping the correction receivers to reconstructing their social network.Section 5 summarized the reconstruction situations of social support network, reemphasized the importance of social workers in helping the correction receivers, in terms of the social workers'views, discussing how the improvements can be done on system, professionalism and services for more successful reconstruction. In the last part I also mentioned the limits of this research.
