Foreign Language Teaching in the past, basically almost based on teachers teaching the subject, the students simply as the object in a passive acceptance of the status of knowledge. Students only learned what teachers talked, who cannot fully display their initiative, and also bound their imagination and creativity. The implementation of the new curriculum has been lasted for 8 years. New demands have been put forward to teachers'teaching and students'learning and it is also concerned about the independent study. Learning to understand the current status of independent learning of English for primary school students has an important significance to effectively train and develop independent learning ability of students, to improve English teaching, and to ultimately improve learning efficiency. This paper argues that it can be carried out from the student's motivation, learning plans, self-monitoring, learning strategies, external influences and self-evaluation such six areas to train students'self-learning ability.Thesis studied the concept of autonomous learning and independent study at home and abroad about foreign language learning, analyzed the factors affecting the independent study, and discussed the necessity and feasibility of training students'self-learning ability in English teaching in primary schools.After a comprehensive discussion of the theoretical basis for independent study, the authors made a questionnaire of independent study on the status of English to Jiangyin CJ sixth grade students. Survey results showed that sixth grade students in English language learning ability is generally poor, self-learning abilities of boys and girls have some differences, and honors has large difference between the backward students. Based on such situation for students learning English, the authors proposed the role of learning through clear, stimulate learning motivation, and develop a learning plan to develop a way of English learning strategies to improve their learning ability. After a year of teaching practice and training, once again, the same survey conducted on the status of English Learning questionnaire survey, after collecting data, compared with the first survey, we got conclusions that English learning aspects of the self-learning ability is the initial success in this year. Practice in the education of teachers is also need to guide attention, and to take attention to student needs. For the winners and backward students of English self-learning ability cannot be generalized, it should be for different levels of learning ability, make different demands. Finally, the authors analyzed and discussed the outcome of this research and inadequate.
