This study focused on nine sets of school-based Chinese textbooks used by 10 four-star high schools in urban areas of Suzhou. In addition,the study does research in the cultural connotation and analyzes and summaries it.First the study introduces the background of the school-based textbooks and the relationship between the textbooks, the school-based curriculum and curriculum standards; Second, the study focuses on analyzing the cultural connotations contained in the textbooks; also it analyzes the latest curriculum standards in "Hong Kong, Macao,Taiwan and Singapore" and the cultural connotation in the Chinese textbooks used by some high school classes in these areas so as to provide some reference; besides it analyzes differences and their causes of the nine sets of school-based textbooks in Suzhou urban; Finally, it suggests the principals and measures to develop and use the cultural connotation in these school-based textbooks.The conclusion of the paper confirms the success in using the school-based textbooks, but it also pointed out how to modify the textbooks: to keep with the times; to expand the scope of the materials and include more Chinese texts from other areas; to include outstanding works from other nations and other countries; to understand more about cultural connotation of literary works and improve students'artistic appreciation.
