The Communication Competence Of College Advisors

As an important part of college teachers, college advisors act as the backbone of the college moral education and ideological and political education and the mentors and guides for the students'healthy development as well as a multi-roled communicator with the integrated duties of education, management, consultation, assistance and research. In terms of communication study, the college advisor's job is a kind of communication and its process a comprehensive communication process.The advisor's influence on students depends on his communication competence. The advisor's communication competence is defined as the advisor's ability of carrying out efficient and decent communication directly or indirectly through various communication means guided by the advanced educational thoughts and philosophy and aimed at the advisor's efficent work under the setting of the highly-developed modern media. In the information society and in the face of the change of working environment and the new features of the student groups, the college advisors must establish the integrated communication structure consisting of a basic level of information ability, a cognitive level of role ability, an expression level of organization and management ability and communication ability, an adjustment level of adaptability and a core level of ideological education ability based on the healthy psychology, good ideological and political quality, extensive expertise and excellent communication knowledge to adapt to the need of professionalized and specialized development, enhance the objectivity, relevance, initiative, richness and professionalism and strive to become an outstanding, multi-roled communicator of student work.
