The purpose of this dissertation is to explore the competency model of Chinese teachers in the primary schools. The research method such as behavior event interview and questionnaire are used in this study. The contents of this research concentrate on the following two aspects:Firstly, through the interview and questionnaire, this study explores the competency model of Chinese teachers in the primary schools. This model includes the professional knowledge of Chinese, language competence, lifelong learning, responsibility, good relationship between teacher and students, competency of organize and manage, the teaching ability of Chinese, enthusiasm, motivation, reading ability, teamwork, self-improvement of Literature, humor, the knowledge of psychology and pedagogy, communication skills, the capacity of self-reflection, tolerance, focusing on quality, the ability of problem-solving and the ability of listening and flexibility. The competency mentioned above can be classified from 6 dimensions: sense of service, achievement motivation, professional knowledge, professional skills, relationship skills and personal qualities.Secondly, this study develops"the test of Chinese teacher competency"which contains 6 dimensions that are the same as that of the Chinese teacher's competency model. The results of Item analysis and exploratory factor analysis showed that the factors extracted stably and reliably. The model and the test can be accepted, and they can be used in the future research.
