With the rapid development of IT, it is necessary to master the basic knowledge and skill of IT. Most people have realized that IT is not only an useful tool but also important knowledge. Without IT, one will find great difficulty in modern society. Since computer application is enjoying greater popularity, "information technology" has become a basic course in middle school. Due to its unique characteristics, IT knowledge changes much more quickly than the knowledge of other subjects. Therefore, it is of vital importance to cultivate students' self-study ability. Besides, modern society puts more emphasis on life-long study, and self-study is an important way for everyone to practise life-long study. Based on both theory and practice, this paper explores how to cultivate middle school students' self-study ability in learning IT course and has gained certain achievement.The paper consists of five parts. First presents research background and significance as well as the purpose and method of the study. Second explains the definition of self-study and draws a comparison between self-study and independent study. Last studies middle school students' ability in learning IT.Through investigation and study this article, makes a detailed analysis of current students' self-study ability in learning IT course. This part first studies the psychology characteristics of middle school students. Based on the questionnaire data, this part analyzes junior middle school students' self-study ability. The last part, from three aspects, elaborates on the main factors which influence students' self-study ability. At last is the key part of this paper, which extends the author's opinion that students' self-study ability can be cultivated from the following aspects: teaching requirements, the process and principle as well as the method of cultivating self-study ability.The cultivation of self-learning ability is very helpful for students'life-long study, so the education administrative department has attached more importance to students'ability of knowledge acquisition. It is hoped that this thesis can help teachers realize the importance of students'self-learning ability and thus lay a solid foundation for their lifelong development.
