Mathematics is closely related to the development of human society.With the advances of technology,mathematics is constantly being applied to all aspects of people’s lives.Mathematical modeling ability is one of the six core qualities for Chinese students’ mathematics learning.Mathematical modeling is an important bridge between mathematical knowledge and practical problems.At present,many junior middle school students in our country are not strong in the consciousness of applied mathematics and mathematical modeling ability.Therefore,the school must strengthen the training of students’ mathematical modeling ability.Based on the reality of middle school teaching,this paper introduces the development status of mathematical modeling research at home and abroad,and clarifies the significance of mathematical modeling learning.The object of this study is divided into teachers and students.Firstly,students are given questionnaires and test papers and the results are statistically analyzed.Then,teachers are interviewed and analyzed.Finally,it is concluded that junior middle school students’ mathematical modeling ability is not high.Then the reasons for the low mathematical modeling ability of students are analyzed from the two aspects of students and teachers.Based on the analysis of the reasons,the author puts forward the strategies to cultivate the mathematical modeling ability of junior middle school students from the four aspects of students,teachers,teaching and school.Students should strengthen their own attention to mathematical modeling,overcome the psychological barrier of mathematical modeling learning and consolidate the basic knowledge of mathematics.Teachers should learn the frontier knowledge of mathematical modeling,develop students’ interest in mathematical modeling,develop students’ reading comprehension and metacognitive ability,change evaluation methods and languages,make good use of after-class delay service,and do a good job in summarizing mathematical models.In teaching,we should focus on the connection between teaching content and practical life,adopt various teaching methods,focus on case teaching,and focus on the integration and development of mathematical modeling curriculum resources in and out of class.Schools should also actively carry out mathematical modeling contests,special lectures on mathematical modeling and contests of high-quality courses in mathematical modeling.Finally,the author gives the links and steps of cultivating students’ mathematical modeling ability in junior middle school mathematics teaching,and designs two teaching cases of quadratic function and practical application problem and right triangle and its application.The whole process of mathematical modeling is reflected in the teaching case,which provides reference for the practice teaching of front-line teachers.
