The assignment of essay examination of CEE (College Entrance Examination) has constantly received wide attention with such characteristics as independence, justice, authoritativeness, and normativeness, and its greater percentage of the total scores in particular has been widely focused on by the public. Functioning itself as a baton, the essay has not only exerted on the students to be singled out directly, it has also affected the reforming and developing of the essay-teaching process of the secondary school decisively.Since the advent of the new century, there have been great changes in both form and content of the essay examinations, which accordingly bring positive effects to the teaching process in high schools. From the year of 2000 to 2004, the composition with an assigned subject was the order of the day; but multiple forms have co-existed ever since then. Meanwhile, the content of the essay examinations has also covered a larger scale and show more perspectives than before. The examination-oriented education with programmed steps had proved to be no use except to make students victims of the conventional modes of thought, which has in the end resulted in the writing-test to be finished according to some pattered model essay of lacking individuality and without vitality. And now the recent inclinations of this field demand that the students in the daily writing exercises should get out of the trouble of the traditional testing type and should exercise themselves comprehensively by enlarging their eyesight from the single school life to such vast fields as family background and diverse social life, which has already reached beyond the requirements of the CEE and made their development in combination of the future expectation of the society. As far as that goes, the high school Chinese teachers must be fully aware of this situation and arrange their teaching courses accordingly.The year of 2004 has been the watershed in the whole process of 2000-2009 as far as the assignment of essay examination of CEE is concerned, and during that period the essay examinations has experienced a great change from single pattern to multiple ones. So it is necessary for us to extend our research on the ideas of essays questions, relative concepts and future developments so as to direct the practice in essays teaching and learning more efficiently. This thesis aims to rearrange issues rising in the multiple forms and contents of the essays examinations of CEE with an aim to make profound research into its characters, regularity, and influences. And in concrete process, we will carry out our research from parts to totality; meantime we will probe into these critical problems of this field, which in the end will provide the high school teachers with beneficial experience from theoretical preparation to practical teaching activities.
