This article has discovered both positive and negative impact of mass communication on Chinese college students'moral education through the analysis of its nature and functions on moral education. Further more, this article provided the measure on how to make full use of its positive impact on students.The revolution of science & technology has pushed all mankind into a brand new era which is labeled by globalization and informatization. The network-based mass communication has reached an unprecedented development, which has cast deeper and widespread impact on people's lifestyle and value. To some extent, the modern society has entered the era of communication. In this section of history, the moral education of universities has also encountered profound change. Serving as the leading force of mass culture, it cast far-reaching and profound impact on students'way of thinking, behavior pattern, value orientation and psychological characteristics. Confronting the opportunity and challenge brought by the development, the following issues are now of significant academic and practical value: how to maximize the positive impact while avoiding negative ones; how to strengthen and improve the moral education for college students.After a series of analysis and summary through status quo conducted by the penman, there is a conclusion that the mass communication casted both positive and negative impacts upon students, among which the positive ones included opening up the education environment, enriching the context of education, diversifying the teaching method, shortcutting the process of education and making the educational activities fungible. However, the mass communication is just another two-edge sword: it casted a collection of bad impacts upon students'physical health and mentality simultaneously when it brought positive ones. They are, for example, the different teaching context due to the descending ranking of universities has weakened the authority of a certain amount of educators; the impact upon the traditional culture due to the media culture has also caused the fission of students'spiritual core; the negative impact upon students'mind and psychology; the confusion on value due to the vulgarization of the mass communication, etc.It's easy to find that the mass communication can cast great influence on students'development according to all the analysis above. This phenomenon can't just go on naturally without regulation. On the contrary, measures should be taken to make the positive impacts should be maximized while the negative ones should be suppressed. To enhance its function on moral education, the author here lists out five recommends:Firstly, the mass communication should be used to reform the content, format and method of the college moral education. The mass communication should be fully applied to update the content in order to diversify the college moral education. That consists of the details as follows: make sure the context is updated, the method is versatile and the effect is solid; create a positive and healthy campus culture by various ways and introducing the practical media information into the classroom of morality; improve the current situation of moral education, the fundamental cultural skill and cultural deposit of the students; strengthen the defense of the erosion of negative information.Secondly, students themselves should be respected. The moral education in college should respect students as subjects of the audience. With the interactive platform of mass communication, the way of simply cramming should be transferred into a combination of both"cramming"and"guiding". In addition, their self-identification should be stimulated in a harmonious atmosphere in order to get them to accept the education and make it their self-conscious.Thirdly, the modernization of faculty should be strengthened. Moral educators should adapt the demand of the new era, keep updating the perception of education, keep learning network-based technology; Master other kinds of skills and put them into daily use so that all aspects of moral education can meet the demand of the development in this era.Fourthly, different social roles should get into their positions to form a joint force. Since the college moral education lies under the aggressive influence of mass communication, its effect is judged by the multiple competitions between the two of them. The mass communication is continuously deconstructing and reconstructing the subject of moral education. To avoid all kinds of negative impacts from the communication including the moral educational objectives'over socialization, the formation of sociopathic and vulgarization like violence and pornographic, it is necessary to take aspects like the government, media, jobholders, students, faculty and schools into consideration in order to create an ideal path of college moral education.Finally, the education on media qualification for students should be strengthened. That is to keep diminishing the negative impacts until students can fully understand it; besides, it is suggested to apply those factors used to belong to moral education onto the media by enhancing students'ability of classifying information. With this way, those factors can become the educational system's mainstream when dealing with those negative impacts. By strengthening the education on media qualification can not only create a good public environment for the college education but also provided better method to receive the ideal result.
