With the installation of "New Curriculum Standards for High School English Course" all over China, task-based language teaching (TBLT) has attracted a great many English teachers'attention in China. Task-based Language Teaching method, advocated by the New National English Curriculum Standard (2001), concentrates on schooling the students'competence to utilize language, to cooperate with classmates and to look for necessary information, which emphasizes that "learning by doing", in which learners engage in naturalistic learning by experiencing as well as exploring language. Diversified tasks not only help improve the students' integrated skills in communicating in English, but also contribute to the cultivation of their self-study ability and co-operative spirit. The thesis attempts to apply the task-based teaching approach to the post-reading phase by carrying out some activities easy to operate in class, aiming to prove the feasibility and effectiveness of the application of TBLT in the post-reading phase as well as provide some reference for high school English teachers. At the same time, it also proves that by participating in various meaningful activities, the students'interest in learning English can be motivated and their overall language competence can get improved. This thesis is divided into five chapters:The first chapter introduces the research question, the purpose and significance of this research, after that provides the structure of the thesis. The second chapter concentrates on a survey of literature review, which covers the theories of task-based language teaching and the researches on the application of TBLT in reading abroad and in China. The third chapter is the key section of the thesis, which is to deal with the experimental implementation of TBLT in post-reading phase. This part covers the different aspects in relation to the experiment, such as, subjects, research questions, instruments and procedures. The fourth chapter mainly states the results and analysis of the research. The fifth chapter is the conclusion of the whole thesis which gives readers a clear picture of the whole thesis. The author sums up the main points of view and offers some suggestions for the further study.
