This article, after consultation with relevant experts, determines the five health physical ability and sport-related physical ability as test indicators, and accomplishes a compre-hendsive test of the physical condition of geology students. After comparing the data of the physical results of geology students at the same age to the " Report on Chinese Student Physical Fitness and Health in 2005" and " Second National Physique Monitoring Report in 2007", we found In addition to poor quality of muscular endurance, in 2009 the physical health of geology students have reached mid-level or above average levels, in which cardiorespiratory endurance, flexibility, agility and coordination of the quality are significantly higher than the national average, and have a rising trend. The physical health of geology students has an upward trend for many reasons, such as social, family, school factors, and the students themselves. As to social causes, although some specific aspects of system does not give enough emphasis on sports, stable employment and less pressure, combined with the recognition of professional and more difficult working environment prompt students to develop good habits of physical exercise. In terms of its family reasons, population policy over the years leads to an increase of only children, and the general families who love and even spoil the child so that they lack the training of strong will and hard-working character. But the geology students are mostly from small cities or rural areas. The family background makes graduations engage in geological trades, which urges them more actively participate in physical exercise and improve their physical fitness. The main reason of school's lies in professional attributes. Geological colleges are the professional institutions to train geologist, so schools are highly concerned about health of students. They actively explore in sports venue construction, teaching reform, syllabus revision, training objectives, evaluation methods and group active-ties to create a good environment, enable students to plunge into the physical training activities and continuously enhance their physical fitness. In addition, the students fully understand the role of physical exercise, which is also an important reason for the rise. With attempts to field investigation, review of information, this article strives to make an objective and comparative analysis on the material acquired, identifies the characteristic and patterns of physical ability of geology students and gives some comments and proposals to the majority gym teachers of the relevant professional institutions of Geology for the teaching of physical education.
