After new course reformations raised, the content of geography textbooks has become more rich. The number and content of extracurricular reading aslo become more novel. Modern geography education require that teachers should have the scientific research ability. The systematic research to extracurricular reading could provide theoretical basis to integrate teaching resources, to improve teachers' specialized scientific research ability, to perfect geography teaching research. The research on teaching materials is increasing, but on the" reading column" is a little. It has not elaborated the characteristics,problems of reading column, how to use it to reveal the biggest value. So this article could be useful to materials research. Using the method of questionnaire survey finds the questions existing in the actual teaching process. This article uses document analysis,textbooks contrast method and case analysis. Six chapters consist this paper.The first chapter:Introduction theoretical basis of using reading column, for example:constructivism,effective teaching, emotion psychology teaching theory of non-directive teaching.The second chapter:Summary historical evolution course of geography textbooks on textbooks complied rights,write guiding ideology,content arrangement and layout structure. And focuses on analysis the characteristics of reading column of multiple types Chinese geography textbooks.The third chapter:Analysis four factors characteristics,education function on textbook,teacher and student and varieties division of extracurricular reading.The fourth chapter:According to the result of classification of reading column, contrasting shanghai and people's education press textbooks to research the characteristics,problems of Shanghai textbooks.The fifth chapter:Discuss four principles of using reading column. Mainly discuss how to use reflecting emotional attitude values,processes and methods of reading column.The sixth chapter:Absorb a lesson to analysis.The final part is summary. It summaries the research significance,content,methods,conclusion and puts forward the needing research questions in the future.
