The transformations of the curriculum ideal promoted the reforms ofthe textbook. Based on the shanghai school geography curriculumstandards and reflect the curriculum ideal, columns provided in thetextbooks also change. Besides the text, there are four kinds of sectionsin the geography textbooks for senior high school grade one students inShanghai, namely they are column, thinking and practice, investigationand discussion, the project.The author tries to study the teaching implementation of thecolumns in Shanghai senior high school geography textbooks.Through literatures study, the author tries to analyze and clarify theacademic foundation of how to use the columns. Based on the currentstudy of others, the author divides the columns into different sort forfurther survey. Through the questionnaire survey for both teachers andstudents, the author tries to find out the thoughts, the doings and thesuggestions of the columns teaching implementation from both sides.Through the analysis of teaching design, classroom observation andannotation, the author tries to find out the actuality of the columnsteaching implementation. Based on all the study mention above, theauthor tries to expatiate the characteristics in the columns teachingimplementation and tries to give suggestions for how to better use thecolumns.Proposed strategies as follows: first, use the columns to service forthe text. Pay attention to the application of the columns and don’tteach just for the test; use the columns in different ways for differenttypes; update the columns to keep pace with the times. Second, usethe columns to improve the students learning skills. Use the columns toemphasize the contrast and comparative thoughts, use the columns topay close attention to geographic reading ability, use the columns to train the comprehensive inquiry ability. Third, use the columns to enrichthe teaching process and method. Use the columns to support theother sections, use the columns to check the teaching effect, use thecolumns to combine with modern information technology. Last, use thecolumns to cultivation of emotional attitude and values. Use thecolumns to accumulate the geographical scientific literacy, use thecolumns to establish scientific and geographical values.Through the study of the columns, the author want to improve theteacher’s understandings of the values and the sorts of the columns,provide strategies for teachers to better use the columns and bring thevalue of the columns into play.
