Instructional media is the information transmission medium between teacher and learners. It plays important role in teaching environment. In China, schooling is the main form of secondary vocational education in which instructional media is indispensable tool for information transmission in instruction. The history of instructional media research shows that our expectation of media is always higher than their actual effect. Government and schools have increasingly aware of the value and advantage of instructional media in improving vocational teaching and expand the investment. However, it is necessary for us to calm down and study effectiveness of instructional media utilization in instruction in secondary vocational schools.The study focused on media utilization in classroom teaching. Questionnaire surveys and instruction observation were used in the study on the basic of expliciting the standards of instructional media effictive use in instruction and tried to find out factors which are influence and hinder the effectiveness of media utilization in instruction and errors in teachers' behavior in instruction and media use.This thesis comprises six chapters.Chapter 1 is introduction. The background of the research was introduced and the development of instructional media research overseas and application research of instructional media in domestic secondary vocational schools were summarized briefly in this chapter. The author explicited the objectives, basic research problems and research methods in this chapter.Chapter 2 is literature review of the fundamental theories of instructional media use in instruction. The author reviewed and ordered the classic related theories of instructional media.Chapter 3 is the standards of instructional media use in instruction of secondary vocational schools. The author discussed the evaluation standards of instructional media form the technical features of modern media and from which two aspects of the standards of effectiveness evaluating of instructional media was extended:(1) Standards of teachers'media use in secondary vocational schools. (2) Objectives of media effective use in classroom teaching. Research framework, research contents, research methods and research process were designed after expliciting the standards.Chapter 4 is one part of present situation of media use in instruction in secondary vocational schools:media use of teachers in classroom teaching. This part of study used questionnaire which was designed based on classic ASSURE model and investigated the process and behavior of media use of teacher in secondary vocational school. This chapter is the investigation report of this part.Chapter 5 is another part of present situation of meida use in instruction in secondary vocational schools:effect of media use in instruction. In this part, the author investigated the role and value of instructional media in real complete teaching situation through classroom observation and found out the factors which prevent the effectiveness of media use in instrucation. Furthermore, the author did further investigation focus on the universality of teachers' teaching and guidance mode in individual onservation cases. This chapter is the investigation report of this part.Chapter 6 is the research results discussion of this study. The author summarized the problems and obstacles in process and behavior of media use of teachers in secondary vocational schools and factors which influence the effectivenss of media use in instructional based on the investigation in Chapter 4 and Chapter 5. Additonally, the author did further reflections based on the classic ASSURE mode and the research results. Finally, the research put forward countermeasures to improve the effectivenss of meida use in struction in secondary vocational schools.
