"It a course of utmost significance to research on and edit the geography textbooks for high schools." The geography textbooks published by People's Education Press, over more than half a century and in accordance with the constant curriculum reforms, have made several innovations and improvements. In conformity with the curriculum reform of the century, New Course Standard geography textbooks advocated by Hunan Education Press, China Book Publishing Press,and Shandong Education Press, have trodden on a new way and broken the monopolist dominance of the People's Education Press version. The policy of "One Standard, Multiple Textbooks" has succeeded after that of "One Outline, One Textbook". And the editing of the textbook is based on the new curriculum standard, by means of the transformation of the manners of learning, and targeted at students'wholesome development. This thesis starts from the presentation of geography textbooks, this subtle but noticeable perspective, and focuses on the influences of the transformation of the manners of learning. It attaches great importance to the empirical studies, and discusses the influences of the presentation of geography textbooks on the manners of learning. Hence, temporally and practically significant, it can contribute to the transformation of manners of learning, offer some scientific guidance to students in their use of textbooks, and ensure the complete realization of the function and value of geography textbooks.This thesis is composed of six parts.The first part is introduction in which the background for the research and the significance of the research are laid bare. In terms of the extensive literature review, the recent researches, the existent problems, some inspiring points for this research, the problems to be solved, the approaches used in this study, and the train of thought for this thesis are all explained in details.The second part aims at the theoretical base for this research, involving Principal educational Theory, Theories of Natural Science, Modern Learning Theory and Educational Communication Theory.The following part is static study. Content analysis is used to compare the presentations of the geography textbooks between the same version of different periods, and between different versions of the same period and summarize the characteristics of the variation. Based on the relative theories of this research, the qualified status of the influences on the manners of learning is concluded.The fourth part is dynamic study, which is also the most important part of this thesis. Through laboratory video analysis, classroom follow-up observations, and survey methods, the actual status of the influences of the presentations of geography textbooks on the transformation of the manners of learning is discussed, and so are the major factors that prevent actual status from the qualified status.The fifth part is strategic study. Based on the precious research, the strategies are explored here, and empirical cases are designed to ensure the complete realization of the manners of learning based on the reforms of the presentations of geography textbooks.The last part summarizes the conclusion of this thesis, points out its weaknesses and disadvantages, and suggests some ideas for further research on this topic.
