"Lifelong learning" is the basic concept of modern education. Personal sustainable development which is based on school education is more depend on self-learning. As a phenomenon, the transfer along with all the meaningful learning deserves our attention. However, throughout the current situation of our high school students'mathematical learning transfer is not optimistic. It has a lot to do with the negative transfer in mathematical learning. This paper attempts to explore the negative transfer causes in high school mathematical study and teaching strategies to prevent and overcome the negative transfer, which aims at providing certain guidance for promoting positive transfer and providing basis and recommendations for promoting the development of students' creative thinking and further implementation of new curriculum's concept.Based on the existing research and general transfer theory, the paper elaborated the mathematics transfer and negative transfer in mathematical learning combined with course characteristics of mathematics. We also illustrate the value of cultivating the mathematics transfer ability of high school students, and specifically expound and briefly review the transfer theory both traditional and modern.The author summarized the causes of negative transfer in high school mathematics study systematically through analyzing the data from questionnaires, interviewing students combined with the observation to high school mathematics learning in teaching practice. The causes could be listed as follows:the first could be analyzed from students. The mathematical cognitive structural defects will result in unsubstantial understanding for new knowledge, and the poor analyze ability will result in distinguish similar knowledge poorly, the negative influence of thinking set, students metacognitive ability defects will result in difficulty in understanding and so on. The second will be summarized from teachers. The insufficient emphasis on the difficult and key content in teaching will cause students'inadequate attention; the old and inflexible teaching method will affect the teaching effect. The last one could be analyzed from teaching materials, such as the abstract of the contents, discontinuity of knowledge points, and unreasonable teaching content arrangement.According to the causes of negative transfer of high school mathematics learning, this paper puts forward a number of teaching strategies of preventing and overcoming negative transfer:teachers should help students establish good cognitive structure to overcome the cognitive and skill negative transfer; put an emphasis on student's thinking training to eliminate thinking negative transfer; develop the students' metacognitive ability to overcome the negative transfer of metacognition's defects; strengthen the cultivation of study emotion to promote emotional migration, etc.
